Indigenous Engagement
SaskTel aims to be a leader in Indigenous engagement by integrating an Indigenous perspective into every part of our business. We commit to fostering meaningful relationships, promoting collaboration, and taking respectful action.
Our goals are to be an Indigenous employer choice, evolve procurement practices, and actively contribute to our home province. By acknowledging our history and working towards reconciliation, we pave the way for a more inclusive and prosperous future at SaskTel.

Our Four Pillars of Focus
Our Indigenous Engagement Strategy includes four pillars of focus.
Ways of Doing: Indigenous Procurement & Business
We recognize the importance of actively collaborating with Indigenous suppliers and building meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities and customers to contribute to local economic development and enhance digital inclusion.
In September 2024, we announced the recent expansion of our 5G network to North Grove - Buffalo Pound, La Ronge, Red Earth Cree Nation, and 50 other cell sites serving rural and Indigenous communities, as well as several highway corridors. This latest expansion is part of our ongoing initiative to deliver next-generation hyper-fast wireless connectivity to Saskatchewan residents and businesses. Learn more
Ways of Knowing: Education
We cultivate a workforce with a deep understanding of Indigenous culture to foster cultural inclusivity, drive transformation, ignite innovation, and propel positive change within the organization.
We are committed to fostering meaningful relationships with Indigenous peoples and communities across our province by listening, learning, and striving for meaningful progress. As part of this commitment, we have permanently raised the Treaty 4 and Métis Nation flags at our Head Office to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Treaty 4 signing and our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.
Ways of Being: Our People
We strive to be an employer of choice for Indigenous individuals in our province. We focus on attracting, retaining, and developing our team while also encouraging Indigenous youth to further their education and align their talents with SaskTel. The SaskTel Indigenous Employee Network (SIEN) is a group of employees that act as ambassadors to educate and support SaskTel employees regarding the significance and diversity of Indigenous cultures and teachings.
Ways of Connecting: Our Community
We're committed to investing in and supporting Indigenous-focused initiatives. We achieve this through sponsorships that give back in meaningful ways to the province we serve.
We support Indigenous community events, programs, and initiatives across the province, including:
- SaskTel's Indigenous Youth Awards, which celebrate the greatest achievements and qualities of our Indigenous youth. Since the awards were established with the Wicihitowin Foundation in 1997, SaskTel has proudly been the title sponsor. Learn about the awards and nomination process.
- National Indigenous Peoples Day
- Orange Shirt Day events across the province
- Winter Clothing Drive, a SIEN initiative where SaskTel employees donate new or gently used toys and warm winter clothing to give to community schools in Regina and Saskatoon that have a need for these items.
- Greeting Card Program, a SIEN initiative in which Indigenous students from partner schools participate in an annual art contest. Indigenous-themed artworks are selected and made into greeting cards and sold year-round. 100% of all profits go back to the partner schools to support the schools' art programs. You can purchase cards by emailing saen.mail@sasktel.com.
